Bob H.,

Owner/Chief Pilot, Large 141 Flight School

I first met Murray after his FAA retirement and his appointment as AOPA's VP of Government & Regulatory Affairs. I had asked Murray for help dealing with an FAA office that showed little interest in fulfilling its obligations to support my flight school. Following several COVID-era ZOOM meetings, Murray tactfully made it clear that it was very much in their best interest to replace the Inspector overseeing our school and get on board with performing their statutory duties. We were immediately appointed a new FAA Inspector, and years of backlogged administrative actions were completed in under 3 months. Due to Murray's efforts, the professional relationship we now enjoy with our Inspector and the FAA office is a model for others across the country. The current office manager and I have even given presentations to other schools on how to work with the FAA to advance their school's authority.

That was the beginning of Murray assisting our school in many ways. He provided invaluable advice as we stood up our helicopter training operation. He co-authored and performed in a light-hearted presentation to other flight school owners about the FAA's relationship with flight schools. He participated in a panel discussing Designated Pilot Examiners with flight school owners. Murray led the effort to assemble a panel to educate Northern Virginia pilots about the challenges and developments in transitioning from leaded aviation fuel by 2030. In his doctoral applied research manuscript, Murray analyzed our school's flight training policies and practices and provided me with a very useful set of recommendations. He is also currently assisting our aircraft maintenance shop in obtaining its FAA 145 certification. His experience, knowledge, networking, professionalism, persistence, and friendly style are responsible for a tremendous amount of our recent successes.
